True love, is when someone else becomes an extension of your consciousness, when you feel their needs and hopes and dreams as strongly as you do your own.
More often than not, when we say we love someone, we really mean that we love how they make us feel. If this is true, then what is true love, and how can we create it?
Only when you give can you experience true love.
Hashem teaches us that giving to others is a great Mitzvah, lifting someone's spirits when they are down, sick, or lonely.
During a gap year in Israel, my daughter's friend started an Instagram account dedicated to mini mitzvahs. They visite wounded soldiers and host barbecues for soldier in their base, putting in tremendous time and effort to carry out one of the most meaningful mitzvahs.
This week, my daughter joined her friends to visit wounded soldiers at the hospital. She was overjoyed by the experience; the soldiers were thrilled to see her and appreciated her spending time with them. She went from room to room, meeting many incredible people, and left feeling lucky to have interacted with them and brightened her day. She felt empowered by the entire experience and is proud of her friends who started the initiative.
A small gesture that takes time from one's own life to improve someone else's life can be transformative for both the giver and the receiver. When you give and think of others, it's no longer about yourself.
Giving is when you truly experience the most profound and fulfilling emotions in your soul and heart. Generosity and acts of kindness hold immense value in life; Tzedakah and good deeds are equivalent to all the mitzvot of the Torah.
Let us be inspired to give ourselves to others, to build genuine love, and to endlessly expand beyond our limited sense of self into true oneness with our family, our friends, all of Klal Yisrael, and ultimately, Hashem Himself.
May we learn how to experience true love by giving and be connected to Hashem amen 🙏
